When to go

The Corbett tiger reserve remains open from 15th Nov to 15th Jun though the Buffer zone areas remain open throughout the year.

Climatic Conditions and what to wear

Light clothing in summers and woolens in winters (Nov to mid Feb).The clothes should be light in color keeping in mind the natural surroundings. Khaki, olive green or any other light color Altitude: 385 to 1100 meters above sea level Temperature: in winter's can go down to 4 C at night and max in summers is 42 degrees. Rainfall: 1400mm-2800mm How to reach The Corbett park is about 6 hours drive from New Delhi, The nearest town is Ramnagar which is well connected by State transport buses from Delhi, Moradabad and Haldwani and overnight trains from Delhi and Lucknow. Nearest Airport is Pantnagar where UP Airways operates bi-weekly flights from Delhi and Lucknow From Ramnagar where the booking office of the park is also located you can hire private jeeps for going into the park on per day basis, cost depends upon how well you can negotiate.

There is a bus going from Ramnagar to Dhikala every evening and returns the next morning Entry to the park The entry permits have to be obtained form the reception areas, but visitors have to make sure that they should reach the place of stay before sunset, since entry is strictly prohibited after sunset. Fishing:

Fishing is only allowed outside the Corbett park and Sonanadi sanctuary, permits can be obtained from DFO, Ramnagar for fishing at Kosi and from the field director for Ramganga river. These permits are issued form 1st Oct to 30th Jun.

Accommodation

The park has reasonable accommodation available inside but it is preferable to book in advance. Amongst them Dhikala is at the heart of the core area is well located has facilities of staying in cabins, three bedded huts, rest house or dormitory type loghuts, they have restaurant, a library, post office, first aid and a provision store. Dhikala has a good viewing areas for spotting tigers in the grasslands near the forest also you can see huge herds of elephants and Chital which are visible through the viewing towers or 'machans'. The best way to see these animals are in the early morning or in the evening on the elephant ride when you can be closest to the wild animals. If you are in a motor vehicle then a drive down the Sambhar trail is a must. There are also a number of rest houses, which are more isolated and ideal for nature lovers and wild life enthusiasts. However basic provisions and cooking utensils have to be carried since not much facilities exist though the caretakers often cook for the visitors Going towards Dhikala there is a small rest house called Sultan, going further down you will come across Gairal rest house which has six rooms and is located on the banks of Ramganga river, tigers have known to have been spotted drinking water, sometimes entire herds of elephants have been seen across the river which come for bathing and drinking water. At the crocodile pool can be spotted the Garhial and mugger. Further down is the rest house called Sarpduli, which has two rooms. The other Two room rest houses are at Kanda, Malani, Lohachaur, Haldupurao, Rathuadhab, Morghatti, Sendhikhal, Mundiapani, Kalagarh, Dhela and Jhirna which has four rooms Nine Kms from Ramnagar is located the six room rest house at Bijrani where day visits are permitted and is an ideal place for spotting animals.
