Topography

The park consists of grasslands interspersed with marshy stretches located between a thickly wooded sal forest belt to the north and two rivers to the south. A major part of the lower lying grasslands are submerged under water every year during the monsoon season. It is these receding floodwaters that leave behind the swampy stretches extending in the north-south direction all over the park's grasslands. The park lies among the foothills of the Himalayas and very close to the base of it's mighty mountain peaks.
