Fauna

Gir National Park, although it is mainly famous for it's unique Asiatic Lions, is also an excellent reserve for viewing other animal species like Panthers. Some of the more important animal species which are resident of the park are Lions, Panthers, Hyenas, Sambar, Chital, Nilgai, Chawsingha, Chinkara, Wild Boar, Langur, Jackals, Wild Cats and Hares.

The reptile population of the park is mainly represented by Marsh Crocodiles, Monitor Lizards, Pythons and a large variety of snakes. There is an interesting breeding farm for crocodile at Sasan, which also provides the specimens that are relocated into the water reservoirs inside Gir. A visit to this farm is worth the effort.
