Tribals Despite the rehabilitation of a majority of the population from within the reserve area, there still exist two tribes that have learnt to live with the existence of lions and other predators as part of their habitat. The first of these tribes portray a very striking resemblance to residents of the African continent. They are known as Sidhis. It is rumoured that their ancestors were brought in as slaves from Africa by the Navab of Junagadh and have lived here since. The other and more predominant tribe of herdsmen living within the park premises, are the Maladharis. These herdsmen and their families appear totally ignorant of the advances made by the surrounding country. Their villages seem from another era and live in perfect coexistence with nature and their surrounding animal residents. A visit to the villages is a very interesting and unexpected pleasure. |
