Fauna

The Hemis High Altitude National Park is most famous for it's population of the rare Snow Leopards and the Ibex. The best area for trying to spot the snow leopard is in the Shang valley area where it's density is highest. Other than these two animals, the park also has a healthy population of Bharals, Wolf, Wild Dogs, Marmots, Tibetan Wild Ass, Wooly Hares, Stone Martens and Otters. It is advisable to take along a good guide as due to the vastness and inhospitable character of the terrain, it is not an easy task at all to find any of these animals.
