For people wanting to embark on treks, mountaineering, skiing trips, camping trips, etc. there are many shops and tour operators from whom all the required equipment can be bought or hired. These are mostly located along the many shopping lanes of Leh city. Rates are pretty much fixed and do not vary too much between one place and another. Availability of equipment in any other part of Ladakh is an option that should definitely not be considered. Do enough research and asking around before choosing a tour operator or guide for adventurous trips like trekking etc., because at this altitude and under these levels of desolation, being in the wrong hands can end up with very tragic and avoidable consequences.
