Madumalai National Park is located on the northeastern slopes of the Nilgiri mountain range known as Wynad. These slopes of the mountain range end in this area at the level grounds of the Mysore Plateau. These plateaus and their sharp rocking sides are abundant in wildlife. The main area of the park consists of low hills, marshy meadows and open grasslands. The vegetation in the park ranges from the mixed to the moist deciduous type. This vegetation is mostly made up of plants and trees like Teak, Bejal, Indian Laburnum, Bamboo, Kumizh and tall grass. The park is irrigated and drained by the Moyar river mainly, which also forms the physical boundary between Madumalai and Bandipur to it's North.
