The various authorities involved at Pench National Park seemed to be operating varying programs for the betterment of the region. A World Bank funded Eco Development program is currently on that is looking into the requirements of 99 villages that have been taken under its cover. The idea is right and hopefully so will be the implementation. If the villagers are given other means of employment and are able to progress without the exploitation of the forests, it would be the best thing that could happen for the jungles of the area.

Efforts are made at Pench to try and first employ locals from neighbouring villages

The park authorities themselves were working full time at constructing 15 check dams around the park to ensure the availability of water even during the extremely dry summer months. This will help raise the water table and also provide a much needed drink for the animals suffering in the scorching heat. The construction of these dams also created an employment opportunity for the locals. It was ensured that only the local folk from neighbouring villages were hired for the project.

The current Director of the park (2003) is also very enthusiastic about promoting Pench National Park as an eco-tourist destination rivaling the more well know Kanha and Bandhavgarh National Parks of the state. To improve the infrastructure, a lot of development of accommodation and other wildlife educational facilities was seen in the Karmajhiri area. The only fear voiced by many "experts" was maybe overdoing the tourism bit.

The resorts built and being built (2003) like Bagh Van, are also making an attempt to do their bit. As far as possible they ensure they provide emplyment opportunities to the locals and some have started educational programs like schooling for the younger children of the neighbouring villages.
