Mohit Midha

Mohit had a natural fondness for the outdoors right from childhood as his father was in the Indian Air Force and all their bases were located away from the din of city life. He started work in 1988 with a travel agency by the name of Air Travel Beureau. His career extended in this line over the next twelve years with Travel Care, SOTC and ended as manager with a Lufthansa sub. As the previous millenium was coming to an end, he realised all his interests and passion lay in the field of photography, writing and wildlife. So with a little encouragement from friends and family, he took the plunge and quit what the world calls a "settled career". He is now a professional Photographer, writer and explorer.

Although he learnt almost all he knows about photography through trial and error in the field, he honed his skills with an advanced course from the New York Institute of Photography. He had the honour of being one of the six students profiled out of thousands in 2001 in their magazine "Photoworld" for exceptional achievement. His biggest break came when the people at National Geographic approved his ideas and work. He has done work for various top national publications such as India Today Plus, Hindustan Times, Times of India, Today, GoNow, Around Town, Selling World Travel, Expressions, etc. On the international front, he is working on assignments for publications and travel magazines such as "Destinasian". Wildlywise.com is his own project, which he hopes to someday make the final word on wildlife and adventure in India - the aim being to initiate conservation through enhancement and spread of knowledge about his country's natural wonders.

Also, his pictures have been utilised by many organisations and companies, such as I.L.O., Usha Sriram, Galileo India, Interglobe Enterprises, Cedar Heights Resorts, Auric Merchandising, etc. for their promotional activities. He has also done an assignment for the Y.P.O. (Young Presidents' Organisation). Besides this, to keep indulging in his love for the outdoors, he has been on a number of bike, jeep and trekking expeditions to the Himalayas and many other parts of the country. He has participated as a volunteer in the 1999, 2001,2003 and 2005 All India Tiger Censuses, which appear to be his life's highlights as he got to trek in his favourite jungles of Corbett National Park. He has also been a part of the organizing body of the high altitude auto race called the "Raide de Himalaya" organized by the Himalayan Motorsports Association. He has undertaken training in whitewater rafting and has lead various groups for Snow Leopard Adventures. One of his biggest achievements was participating in a successful 80 days jeep expedition covering the entire Indian, Nepalese and Bhutanese Himalayan belt. One of his latest assignments has been to do the entire photography for a limited edition coffee table book on the city of Hyderabad for Lufthansa German Airlines.

Besides writing for Magazines and websites, he has recently signed a contract with Full Circle Publishing for a project bringing out a series of travel guides to Wildlife Parks of India, which will also be associated to his work with National Geographic. He recently concluded highly acclaimed and successful solo photography exhibitions at the prestigious Taj Mahal Hotel New Delhi and at the WWF India Center, New Delhi. His next exhibition is slated to start September 14th 2005 at the Grand Hyatt Dubai.

He feels honoured to have been invited by the Ministry of Tourism for India to be a part of a 3-person jury to judge the winners of an All India Photography Contest organised by them. In the past he has also judged smaller contests during separate exhibitions held at the Prestigious St Stephen's College and Hindu College.

The World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), in association with the Readers' Digest and the Ministry of Tourism for India, are going to include a specially shot small collection of photographs by Mohit at an auction aiming to raise funds for conservation in India.
