Accommodation:
There is an excellent variety of accommodation facilities available at the park. The main concentration of these facilities is in and around the Tourist Complex located in the North-Western region of the park. The main ones here being Aranya Nivas and the Periyar House. The Lake Palace at Eddapaliyam is also an excellent accommodation option as wildlife viewing on the opposite banks is possible from the resort itself. Also located close to it is a watchtower from where it is possible to view Gaur other than various other animal species. Other than these hotels and lodges, Forest Rest Houses are also available at excellent locations in prime wildlife viewing areas. The Manakarala Forest Rest House is located almost in the central portion of the lake area. The Mullakady Forest Rest House is located more to the East. The Thannikudy Forest Rest House is located to the South-East of Mullakady and lies within the core area. The Thannikudy Forest Rest House requires special permission to be taken and is mostly out of bounds to general tourist. Thannikudy is more used by the park authorities for patrolling and guarding the areas more susceptible to poachers.
All the Forest Rest Houses, along with being some of the best located accommodations in the park, are also some of the most economically priced.
