Pictures of the famous Jogi Mahal Forest Rest House have now almost become synonymous with the Ranthambore National Park. Many stories have been written about tiger sightings and other exciting happenings at the rest house itself. The facilities it offers are basic but the pleasure it provides is almost unmatched by any other forest rest house in the world. The sad part is that in the recent past, it has now been shut down to visitors as an accommodation facility.

The location of the rest house is responsible for one of the best jungle experiences possible anywhere in the world

The reasons behind this vary from person to person. Whatever the reason, it is a huge loss to the avid wildlife enthusiast. Hopefully, it will be reopened to visitors in the near future but there no such intentions yet. At present it is used only by the wildlife department during their park activities.

The rest house is located adjacent to what is known to be the second largest banyan tree in the world. It is fascinating watching the resident langurs, who are permanent residents of it, other than a host of birds.
