There
is not much one can really say about the topography of the Sunderbans.
With the altitude averaging at 7.5m above sea level, there is hardly any
elevation variation throughout. The park is dotted with 54 small islands
that are criss-crossed by numerous tributaries of the mighty rivers Ganga
and Bhramaputra, which finally flow out at the southern tip into the Bay
of Bengal. This estuarine flat land is interspersed in places by slightly
elevated land and mangrove swamps.
